My Story...
In September 2018 I am running the Great North Run in order to raise money for the Sepsis Trust UK. I am also running the London Marathon for the British Lung Foundation in April, but the majority of my fundraising will now be for the Sepsis Trust Uk.
Any of you who know me will understand what a challenge this will be for me, as I am far from the world’s most natural runner. In fact I once declared there was no such thing as a “fun run”. However my motivation to run was triggered by the hardest event I have ever had to deal with.
On the 24th of May 2017 I lost my beautiful Mum very suddenly. One moment she was a healthy, vibrant 57 year old lady who went to the gym nearly every day and played golf regularly, and then very suddenly she passed away. Her condition deteriorated at such a rate that the team in the intensive care unit were unable to determine what was wrong and get on top of it in time to save her. In fact even after she passed away it took many weeks for cause of death to be established. Eventually we received the news that my otherwise entirely healthy Mum, had died as a result of an acute circulating failure caused by confluent necrotising pneumonia caused by a sceptic pulmonary embolism. Now if you’re anything like me, the above explanation won’t make sense and the consultant did explain this series of events was extremely unusual – hence why they had not been able to identify it in intensive care. Essentially my Mum had sepsis which in turn led to multiple organ failure. Whilst the team in the intensive care unit worked so incredibly hard to save Mum and did everything they could, they could not possibly have identified the necrotising pneumonia.
My hope is that in years to come thanks to the work and funding of organisations like the Sepsis Trust UK, this condition can be identified early enough and treated in others, to prevent others going through what my family have been through.
And that is why I, Beccy Ranoble, the worlds’ least enthusiastic runner, am going to run 13.1 miles around the streets of Newcastle on the 9th September 2018. I am doing it to raise money for a cause that means so much to my family and I.
Thank you so much for taking the time to visit my page, I am incredibly grateful for every single donation
