Story
I have set up this page with Raine and Louise to represent patients who want to raise desperately needed funding for medical research into the excrutiatingly painful condition of Raynaud's phenomenon.
The entire donation will go towards funding essential medical research with no admin or employee wages.
In 1997, aged 24, I was diagnosed with Systemic Sclerosis (Scleroderma) and Raynaud's.
Raynaud's can present on its own without a further medical condition.
Raine Rigbee, Louise Skinner have primary Raynaud's and together, we have created 'Show Your Colours For Raynauds Awareness Events' to raise vital funds where the entire donation will go to the raynuads unit medical research at The Royal Free hospital, lead by Prof Chris Denton and Dr Kevin Howell- World leaders in Raynaud's medical research.
Raynaud's is extremely painful, can affect all of the body, causing gangrene and amputation if not treated properly. The blood vessels constrict, stopping blood flow, causing colour changes. This sensation is extremely painful, debilitating and exhausting. 'Slamming your hand in a car door' is a mild comparison for the pain sensation experienced during a Raynaud's attack.
There is currently no cure, investment in medical research is desperately needed.
Prevention is the best way to manage Raynaud's, making me house bound for most of the year.
Dr Howell, along with Prof Denton are leaders in the UK and global Raynaud's research field. Their dedication and commitment to improving patients' lives convinces me that they will discover the cure, if given financial investment in their work.
