Story
Hello everyone,
I'm Dan, a keen walker who's previously embarked on several long distance hikes including England's Coast to Coast, the West Highland Way and the Hebredian Way. For some time I've been contemplating a longer adventure around Britain. I considered walking from Lands End to John O'Groats but ultimately wanted to do something a little different. After many hours studying maps of the UK I settled on 'Points & Peaks' as a concept which would take me on a continuous path between the UK's 15 National Parks, climbing to the highest PEAK in each. On the way I'll also venture to mainland Great Britain's Eastern, Southern, Northern & Westernmost POINTS. Why? I hear you ask.. Well I suppose there's three main drivers, firstly I’d like to raise some money for the mental health charity Mind. It’s no secret that the pandemic has put extreme stress on NHS mental health services, and charities like Mind are doing hugely important work in offering people access to the help and support they need. With several people close to me in my life affected by mental health difficulties, it’s a cause that has a lot of meaning for me. I’d also like to promote the significant benefits of walking for mental health. Secondly, I need a break from technology. Yes, I'll still be using my phone to document the trip but I won't be bound to a computer screen for 8-10 hours a day. I don't believe this life/routine is healthy but it appears to be the way for many. A break from this can only be good for body & mind. Finally, I wanted a personal challenge which puts me out of my comfort zone, pushes me and allows be to strive for something that hasn't been achieved before. Thank you for reading. I'll be eternally grateful to anyone who makes a contributions to the cause.
Cheers,
Dan
