Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
My lovely sister, Philippa was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease in July 2018. Shortly afterwards I was fortunate enough to meet a cyclist from Scotland who mentioned the work of Parkinson's research at Edinburgh University. In that moment I was driven to organise a meeting with Dr Tilo Kunath and Joy Milne who shared their passion for the science and the people involved in their world. Tilo is focused on stem cell therapies. Joy is working with a research team in Manchester looking at detecting diseases through smell. All fascinating projects which show the diversity of research today.
On my way home by train to Amble I committed myself to cycling to Slovenia to celebrate the spirit and political ambition of the Cure Parkinson's Trust (CPT).
The Trust was founded by four people with Parkinson's which means that the experience of those living with Parkinson's informs all of their work. The Trust funds research which slows, stops and reverses the symptoms of Parkinson's. They fund both clinical trials and pre-clinical work which seeks to open up new avenues in the search for a cure - all of which have the potential to make a real difference to the lives of people living with Parkinson's. It's a fascinating story and you may wish to visit their website and YouTube channel.
You too can be part of this extrodinary journey by generously giving what you feel you can afford to take forward the research required.
But also you can spread the word by mentioning my own journey to family and friends by sharing a link to this page at the bottom of your own emails; through social media, local press and maybe even engage with families whom you know with Parkinson's. Everything is possible...
Follow me on Instagram (@pedal4cure) - a pictorial account of my travels, people I meet and friendships to be made. This world is about people and how we can help one another, with love, compassion and humility.
Thank you and crack on!
xx Jeremy
