Story
From 30 May 2016, I will be hiking on the South West Coast Path, from Minehead to The Lizard. That's 300 miles(or 484 km - sounds more impressive!) and 17,000 metres of ascent (twice Everest!) - Check out my blog on http://www.mytimeonthepath.com to keep up with my progress.
Young carers are children and young persons under 18 yrs who look after one or more parents or siblings who have a disability, illness or mental health condition. At a young age, they take on responsibilities that we, as adults, would find extremely difficult to cope with.
MyTIME charity provides respite adventure breaks to young carers at their outdoor centre on the Isle of Purbeck, Dorset.
The charity is close to my heart for two reasons. The first is, having been a young carer myself, I know how important it is to be given a chance to be a child. The second is that the Isle of Purbeck is one of my favourite places and has been my training ground for the hike - I couldn't think of a more wholesome and beautiful place for young carers to take a break.
For me, it is an opportunity to remember my mum, pick my childhood up along the way and give it to those who desperately need to play.
Thomas (my 10 year old) will join me for a couple of days towards the end as he is also keen to raise funds for children who are less fortunate than he is.
Please give generously (or just a little) :-)
