Everest Base Camp Trek · 4 March 2023

SARA is the largest multi-disciplinary search and rescue organisation in the UK. It operates inshore lifeboats on the tidal Severn, Wye and Usk, and provides inland water and land search & rescue throughout the Severn Area, 24x7x365 with over 150 qualified all-volunteer crew from 6 Stations.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving 

MY TREK

March 3rd 2023 I fly out to Kathmandu, then fly on to Lukla 2 days later, from there my trek to Everest Base Camp begins.

Day 3: Trek from Lukla  to Phakding 8,700 ft (2,652m) roughly 3 hours trek.

Day 4: Trek from Phakding to Namche Bazaar 11,283ft (3,400m) 5-6 hours trek.

Day 5: Namche Bazaar acclimatisation day, trek high come back down to sleep low. (So walking this bit twice).

Day 6; Trek from Namche Bazaar to Tengboche 12,684ft (3,867m) 5 hour trek.

Day 7; Trek from Tengboche to Dingboche 14,295ft (4,358m) 5-6 hour trek.

Day 8; Acclimatisation day at Dingboche, trek high, sleep low. (So walking this bit twice).

Day 9; Trek from Dingboche to Lobuche 16,164ft (4,928m) 5 hour trek.

Day 10; Trek from Lobuche to Gorka Shep and on to Everest Base Camp 17,450ft (5,160m) 7-8 hour trek.

Day 11; Trek starts at 04:00 to summit of Kala Patthar 18,204ft (5,550m) to watch the sun rise over the summit of Mount Everest. Then continue trek back down to Pangboche 7-8 hour trek.

Day 12; Trek from Pangboche to Namche Bazaar 7-8 hour trek.

Day 13; Trek from Namche Bazaar to Lukla 7-8 hour trek.

Day 14; Fly back to Kathmandu.

Day 15; Fly back to UK after one of the biggest adventures of my life. 

Average temperature at Everest Base Camp in March in 2022 was +6’C to -25’C . Snow & thunderstorms are likely, but it will also have brilliantly sunny days and good visibility so I’m hoping to bring back great photos & amazing memories.

ABOUT SARA

SARA is a volunteer lifeboat & inland search & rescue charity, with lifeboat & rescue stations along the length of the River Severn. It is a multi-disciplinary volunteer search & rescue organisation, & is the designated rescue service for an area over 20,000 km2, being primarily called via HM Coastguard, the Police & Fire &  Rescue  services. 

We provide inshore lifeboat, cliff rescue, mud rescue, swift water & flood rescue & land search. 

SARA is an associate member team of  Mountain Rescue England & Wales and is entirely made up of volunteer members.

I myself am an operational crew member of SARA Wyre Forest team, based at Hereford & Worcester Fire & Rescue Hub (Kidderminster fire station).
