Story
I’m doing a year of fundraising to support Roundabout. I will take part in the Manchester, Leeds, York, Hull, Nottingham, Lincoln & Sheffield 10Ks, the Yorkshire Half Marathon, The Great North Run and the Great Swim series, in which the first event is the Great Windermere Swim. This is in addition to a 40-mile bike ride in Harrogate.
I am a local boy and have previously entered the half marathon but failed... this time is more serious, as I want to prove to myself and show my 5-year-old son Max that if you put your mind to anything, you can achieve it. I started running & swimming as a way to get fitter so not to be that fat parent that everyone looks at and wonder how is he going to live past his child's early years. With the help of a close friend over the last two years we have completed parts of the Great Swim Series and he has also helped me gain confidence in my ability to run.
I am a Transport Planning Manager for leading logistics firm, DBL Logistics, based on Tinsley Park Road in Sheffield. The family-run business has been very supportive of my fundraising efforts and I am pleased to assist in raising money for one of their locally-based charities.
Roundabout is Sheffield's youth homeless charity. Every day, they provide shelter and support to over 150 young people in Sheffield who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. You donations will help provide a safe place for young people and help us to provide the support and life skills to help break the cycle of homelessness. Your support will go a long way to changing the lives of some of the most vulnerable young people in Sheffield. Our work is a lifeline for many and supports the young people we work with to prepare for a better future. From £5 which would buy bedding for a young person when they move into the hostel or their own flat to £5,000 which will house a young person for a full year – it all makes a difference to some of the most vulnerable young people in Sheffield.
I am sure we all know somebody who has been in a position where they have needed help and had no where to turn, so please give generously by text or bank transfer. Even as little as £1 will help me reach my goal and help young people within the Sheffield area get back on their feet.
