Story
For those that know me, you will know I am not a runner and barely even a walker… so of course I thought it was a great idea to sign myself up to do the London Marathon this year! 🏃🏻♀️ I’ve been lucky enough to get a place and will be fundraising for the British Heart Foundation in memory of my wonderful Dad, Ceri ❤️
Many people visiting this page will know my Dad sadly passed away from a cardiac arrest on 20th November 2019. It was a truly traumatic experience to witness, watching paramedics work tirelessly to save him and holding his hand as he slipped away. It was a complete shock to us as all as he had been so seemingly healthy his whole life. It was only after an autopsy we discovered he had an undiagnosed heart condition called Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy which caused him to have Cardiomegaly which is often referred to as an “enlarged heart”. The cause of this condition in his case is unknown, though 1 in 500 people in Wales are estimated to have this condition. I hope that by sharing his story I am able to bring awareness to this and other heart conditions, and encourage everyone who may have concerns to please speak to your doctor.
You can read about the main causes and signs of this condition here: https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/cardiomyopathy/
I have begun training for the marathon and slowly increasing my fitness and miles each week, with some smaller races planned for spring and summer to get plenty of practice in. This will be a huge challenge for me physically and mentally but I am nothing if not determined.
I’m grateful for any donation you can give, the money will be going direct to BHF who do amazing work raising awareness, creating new treatments and funding research into new cures. My target is set by the BHF but I am hoping to beat this and will be hosting fundraising events to help get there. I will be posting updates of my training and details of events throughout the year.
If you are unable to donate for any reason, please consider sharing my page instead to raise awareness of underlying heart conditions ❤️
