We are by no means the only people who want to raise money for Amazing Grace or this incredible charity and hospital, therefore with the help of Hive22 Running Club 🐝 we decided to design Grace her very own medal and launched 🚀 #RaceForGrace so that we can all challenge ourselves, inspire one another and most importantly show Grace how many people are here for her! Have a look on our Race for Grace Facebook page for sign up details 😘
For those who don’t know Grace and her wonderful family, Grace is one of Darceys school friends and has just turned 7! She did so in true Grace style with herself and her house decorated in every colour of the rainbow 🌈! I’m even smiling as I’m typing this as I can see her signature smile, the Grace smile! The biggest most infectious smile which can do nothing but make you feel like you can conquer anything! I’m sure I had seen one of her Mums Facebook posts of Grace and her wonderful brother Dylan and It made me feel like I could do anything.... even thought ‘Nicole you CAN run a marathon’ and I signed up! (Thanks Sam 😂❤️).
Anyone who does know Grace knows how incredibly strong she has been over the last 14 months. ‘Strong’ doesn’t even cut it... she’s been an absolute warrior and so have her family.
In December 2019, Grace was diagnosed with a large aggressive brain tumor. Continuing to raise money for this incredible charity is so important to us and will help towards the development and implementation of new treatments and will undoubtedly go towards continuing to care for those closest to us.
When Grace had her initial biopsy she suffered an almost fatal bleed on the brain and was left paralysed in Intensive Care over Christmas 2019 and spent the following 6 months in hospital. She had numerous major operations, rigorous chemotherapy and high dose radiotherapy to combat the disease.
The lasting effects of her bleed on the brain have left Grace with mobility, communication & cognitive difficulties. She can only walk short distances unaided, must remain tube fed due to an unsafe swallow and struggles with her sensory perception.
She has been AMAZING Grace throughout it all. She has been so brave and strong, she has worked incredibly hard, learning to walk and talk again and even was able to come back to school before this latest lockdown and back with her friends who absolutely love and adore her!
Grace is a pure inspiration to everyone who is graced to have her in their lives, no challenge is too big and if there is one word she defines it is ‘resilient’.
Big socially distanced hugs 🤗 ,
Nicole, Elley, Rachael, Del & Darcey xxxx
