Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Have you ever woken up in the middle of the night on holiday and not know where you are? It takes a moment to remember why your bedside table is on the opposite side to usual... imagine this feeling being 24 hours a day. For patients with dementia, this is what being in hospital is like - constant disorientation, no familiar surroundings, no familiar faces... just all very clinical and can’t make sense of it all.
It must be frightening.
It’s is for this reason I am fundraising for my own ward at Milton Keynes Hospital. I would like to create some familiarity for every patient to escape to on Ward 23 - a place for reminiscence, a place that feels a little safer for our vulnerable patients and their families.
For everyone who knows me, knows that I love all things outside and will run and cycle at the drop of a hat. Therefore, for the cause, I have set myself an ambitious target of running and cycling 2018 kilometres in 2018 - something that I have never got even close too.
There will be events throughout the year which will test my own fitness and fears including running up and over mountains in Zermatt, Switzerland and getting in a lake to swim as part of my first triathlon (praying for no fish!) as well as more classic half marathons and more! The invite is welcome to all to join me on any events!
Thank you in advance and for being genourous to really help a good cause for many patients that come into our care.
