Knowing that last year (2017) I had a big milestone birthday , my 60th, I decided that, despite not being a runner, I would celebrate this by running the 2018 London Marathon to raise money for the Brooke - having only taken up running last May it was a steep learning curve and there's been some ups and downs along the way and quite a lot of work went into actually getting me to the start line on Sunday - there are some brief monthly updates on how things went leading up to the London Marathon towards the foot of this page, and more details can be found on my Facebook page at:-

Brooke is an international animal welfare charity working to improve the lives of working horses, donkeys, mules and the people who depend on them - we’ve owned horses for nearly 30 years so horses and their welfare is an important part of our lives and have been supporters of Brooke for over 10 years because of the incredibly good work they do to improve the life and well being of hard working donkeys, mules and horses in the developing world which in turn improves the lives of the people who depend on them for their livelihood. When deciding I was going to run the 2018 London Marathon, Brooke was always the charity I wanted to support. - please help me to help Brooke by raising as much money as possible for them - thank you!
Below are intended as just a few examples - any size donation will however help make a difference, thank you.
£17 - can help train a saddler - A heavy load can cause an animal’s saddle to rub, causing painful wounds.
£38 - can help care for a brick kiln mule - Mules labouring in brick kilns endure injuries and illness from extreme heat, heavy loads and dusty air.
£41 - can provide care for a coal mine donkey - it can help ease the suffering of a donkey working in the harshest conditions.
£50 - can help mend broken hooves - Damaged, painful hooves from rough roads and hilly terrain can cause constant suffering if not treated properly.
£56 - can help train a vet - Help train a local animal healthcare provider to improve their equine skills and strengthen their livelihood. This will help a whole community’s animals enjoy the best possible health.
£71 - can give hard working animals water all year round - Dehydration is not only distressing, it can cause life-threatening problems to a hardworking animal.
- £105 - can help train a farrier - this will help train a local farrier to trim and balance hooves, reducing lameness and protecting animals from unnecessary pain.
