Story
I am training and running this marathon to try and help a cause with goals that are very close to my heart (pardon the pun!).
In 2014, we took our gorgeous daughter, Isla, to California for surgery to correct her complex congenital heart condition. Unfortunately, the hospitals in UK were no longer able to help us after an incorrect diagnosis and subsequent failed open-heart surgery. In the most part, due to poor funding, out of date equipment and technology and lack of revolutionary surgical skills as many heart surgeons leave the UK for all the listed reasons.
We consider ourselves very lucky every day that we were able to take Isla to America for her surgery and the huge financial impact of this. This decision is the sole reason she is here with us and thriving today.
However, it shouldn’t be this way. All babies, children & parents deserve this to be available to them in the UK and not to have their child’s life to be based upon whether you can afford to go to the USA for surgery or not.
The British Heart Foundation are raising vital money to fund breakthrough research and advancements to try and bring the UK in line with other countries so that no family should ever have to go through the pain of knowing that there is an option to save their child’s life but they cannot afford it.
Please help me to raise this money to contribute to their cause.
