Fundraising for Cure Parkinson’s
Story
"I have been asked to be short but moving. At 5'7", I'm certainly short and .......I am always moving!" Tom Isaacs, Founder of the Cure Parkinson's Trust (CPT).
Eight years ago I was inspired / bullied into running the London Marathon to help raise awareness of a disease that had affected our family and close friends greatly. Dad had been diagnosed with Parkinson's in the early nineties, only a few years after we'd lost Grandma to the same disease.
In 2009 after meeting Becky Hurd, a colleague at work, and subsequently Tom Isaacs, I was moved to get involved. Both had been diagnosed in their twenties with a disease that was assumed at the time to be incurable. Neither Becky or Tom were prepared to accept that and their determination to find a cure, along with many others at the Cure Parkinson's Trust, is getting ever closer to making a breakthrough.
Back then, the most incredible breakthrough for me was to see mum and dad dancing together at the CPT Illuminate Ball. Dad had suffered with Parkinson's for 15 years but had always been a reluctant dancer. It's a treasured memory.
Dad lost his battle with the disease back in 2014.
So why now - why do this again? In May last year, Tom Isaacs died suddenly at the age of 49. He was the same age as me. In the 23 years since his diagnosis he had inspired an urgency and clarity of purpose to researching a way to slow, stop and reverse Parkinson's.

It remains the mission of this incredible charity to continue with Tom's vision; to fulfill his dream and to inspire others to join the team and fight on. A cure is out there: we are more determined than ever to find it.
