On July 15th this year I will compete in my first ever Iron Man UK event in Bolton, not only is this a test of my physical strength but also my mental ability due to being diagnosed with PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder) in 2007 after being sectioned whilst at Headly Court this came as a result of my injury on New Year’s Day 2006 whilst serving in Iraq.. My reason for undertaking this challenge is part of my recovery and on going commitment to helping others and continuing my own treatment I chose to represent Style for Soldiers and dedicate my Iron Man to them. Style For Soldiers was founded by Emma Willis MBE in 2007 when she decided that servicemen recovering at the Headley Court rehabilitation centre in Surrey might be given a boost with the gift of one of her £300 tailor-made garments.

Eight years on, the charity has expanded to provide entire outfits, including Savile Row suits in the case of a lucky few, which have made amputees view themselves in a different light and given them the confidence to apply for jobs in civilian life when their Army careers come to an end. Style For Soldiers has personally helped me and many others I know in recognising the sacrifice we make and the difficultys faced in our recovery.

Helping me with my preparation for the event is Terry Bates who himself served in the Royal Navy for 32 years and was a triathlon coach for them. Terry has not only competed himself in triathlon events he alsoa runs a coaching business BeUrBest, Terrys time in the armed forces has given him a skill of helping others overcome their fears and to push forward in achieving their goals but getting stronger than they ever thought possible.

Thank you for taking the time to read my story and any donations will greatly appreciated...and remember always BeUrBest 💪👌
