Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Hi everybody,
My name is Marc and after hearing the saddest story on sport relief a few years ago about a young couple that lost both of their children to unrelated illnesses before their 10th birthdays and only 2 years apart, i decided to get off my butt and do something related to helping any families that find themselves in a similar position. For me our children's health and happiness is the most important thing in the world and its wrong that any parent should have to deal with life threatening problems for their kids.
A few glasses of wine later and the tears had passed so i started to think about what i could do to help? I wanted to do something that would be a challenge for me and sound worthy of asking people to sponsor for a great cause. I have always fancied entering an Ironman triathlon which consists of SWIMMING 2.4 miles, CYCLING 112 miles and RUNNING 26.2 miles to finish, all in 17 hrs before the gate is shut and because i am only a novice, wanna be triathlete some people have said that it all sounds a bit stupid.I say no, what is stupid is that i decided that for a real challenge i will be cycling from home in St Ives Cambs to Bolton (some place up north ) to take my place in the 2018 Ironman uk triathlon.
On Wed 11th july 2018 i will be leaving my home in St Ives by bicycle and will be pedalling to my hotel in Loughborough at some time during the day i will also be swimming 1.2 miles and running 13 miles which will be the equivalent of completing a half ironman distance triathlon. On Thurs 12th i will be leaving my hotel and pedalling to my mums house in Congleton, Cheshire and again at some point in the day will be swimming 1.5 km and running 10km to complete the distance of an Olympic distance tri.
Fri 13th (unlucky for some? ) i will be completing my journey to Bolton and will be swimming, cycling and running the distances required to complete a sprint distance triathlon, the last of the most common distances in triathlon (except ironman. ) I am going to leave Sat 14th to allow for any problems in case i need to catch up and also to prepare both my bike and body in case anything has fallen off ( bike, not my body hopefully) and on Sunday 15th July 2018 i will taking my place on the start line of Ironman uk 2018 so help me god..... what could go wrong???
I have sorted the basics of entry fee's hotels and any other expenses myself so every penny raised will be going to the East Anglia Children's Hospices. I grew up living very close to one of their 3 hospices in Milton Cambridge and know of the unbelievable work they do for sick children and their families helping them understand and deal with the many problems they will have to go through during their time of need, If i struggle at any point in my challenge physically or mentally this cause is the thing that will give my struggles some perspective and will spur me on.
I have always been told that the more people you tell about your challenge's the less opportunity there is to drop out of doing them ( because you don't want to look like a wally )so over the last year and a half i have bored everyone i know talking about my plans over and over but now is the time to shut up and get on with training. As i have said earlier being only a novice i may have bitten off more than i can chew ? I have only ever ran 1 half marathon and competed in a few sprint distance triathlons so i have a fair bit of work to be done and only a number of weeks to do it in to be ready.
Luckily for me i don't mind a bit of pain and don't give up that easily so save yourselves going through the sweat and tears ( leave that to me ) and PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE. give generously i don't do many and won't be doing many charity events after this so please help my small efforts become a success and raise some money for a really worthy cause......
Many thanks
Marc Frohock
