Story
We are attempting to set the first ever Guinness World Record for two women running the fastest marathon while handcuffed together. We’re aiming to complete the Virgin Money London Marathon in less than 4 hours 30 minutes, all in the name of Tom’s Trust.
Specialist mental health support for children with brain tumours is limited in the UK. Tom’s Trust’s vision is that dedicated ongoing support from clinical psychologists will be provided for every child with a brain tumour, as well as their families. Tom’s Trust’s clinical psychologists ensures families’ quality of life and wellbeing is supported through their journey, including during diagnosis, medical treatment, reintegration into school, transition into adult services and bereavement.
The extra challenge we are setting ourselves aims to represent the disabilities faced by children with brain tumours, which are the side effects of the life-saving medical and surgical treatments they have to undergo. One in three children with a brain tumour will die, and out of those who survive, 62% have lifelong disabilities as a result that need ongoing support. We wanted to do something big to draw attention to the charity and the help it gives these children and their families.
We’re regular runners but this latest challenge will be something completely different. Our legs will be in sync but we’re struggling to work out a way to move our arms! Please support us in our challenge by donating what you can spare. Just £5 could fund the initial psychological assessment for a child with a brain tumour, £10 could fund a monthly family session and £25 could fund 20 children reintegrating back into school after long hospital stays. For every £1,000, a child and their family are supported for a whole year.
Thank you!
