Story
The John Thornton Young Achievers Foundation (JTYAF) was set
up in 2008 in memory of Lieutenant John Thornton who was tragically killed in Afghanistan while serving with 40 Commando Royal Marines.
His Foundation encourages and supports young people to 'climb as high as they can dream', by providing scholarships and bursaries to fund their training and personal development.
The JTYAF has no paid staff, no premises and is run on a purely voluntary basis by trustees, ambassadors and a growing network of volunteers. Keeping running costs to a minimum ensures that the maximum amount of funds raised can be directly invested in young futures. Since 2008 more than £485,000 has been awarded to over 1250 young people.
Joe has been a great supporter of the John Thornton Young Achievers Foundation for many years and is also a valued member of the board of Trustees.
Having seen the difference the charity makes to young people's lives first hand through his work at Beaucroft Foundation School Joe is taking his support one step further. Well quite a few steps actually! 26 miles in fact!!
If you're up for the challenge you can join the team and take part in either the full Marathon or a half Marathon. See the JTYAF website at www.jtyaf.org for details. You can also show your support for Joe's Marathon Effort by donating any amount large or small on this page.
Thank you for visiting this page and reading Joe's story. All donations will be used to help young people to discover their potential, develop their talents and ‘climb as high as they can dream.’
