Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our Just Giving page.
In May 2016, a small group of friends - Chris Anderton, Ian Bulloch, Dave Lucas, Steve McColgan, John Pearson, Jack Phillips, Kev Rodgers, Steve Wagstaff & Phil Wainwright – ‘volunteered’ to try and help raise awareness of Motor Neurone Disease (MND) by cycling from The “Dab Of Soul” venue in Nantwich, to the home of “Seriously Soulful”, in Clifton, Bristol, a mere 145 miles or so!
What prompted this altruistic effort was the fact that a mutual friend, Paul Thrower, had been diagnosed with MND the year before and this was our way of raising awareness of this particularly random illness, which strikes without warning and for no real reason.
Paul was very much at the core of our fund-raising efforts, his bravery and stoic humour in facing this disease and not allowing it to completely rule his life, was just fantastic and so uplifting – it was his spirit, his ‘joie de vie’ that provided the impetus, not only for the cycling group, but also the fund-raising efforts of many hundreds, possibly thousands of friends, right across the country. As a result, the fantastic sum of £22,000+ was raised for MNDA. Unfortunately, later that year, in November 2016, Paul died.
Ever since the original ride, there’s been talk of a ‘return’ ride. Well, it’s finally happening, on July 29th/30th this year, the same group of riders - well, almost! Helen Anderton, will be replacing Dave Lucas - will be undertaking the return journey of c.148 miles, and once again, be hoping to raise lots of funds for MNDA.
There will be an ‘End of Ride’, Dab of Soul special, on the Saturday night at the usual venue, The Crown, with all the riders swapping their cycling bibs for records and dj’ing throughout the night.
Thank you for visiting our JustGiving page, any donation you choose to make, is very much appreciated. Every penny donated will go to MNDA.
