About Pilgrims Hospice

I have personally seen the excellent care and support that the Canterbury Hospice provides for family members and friends. 

I recently took part in the annual cycle ride for the hospice which was supported by Kent Sport where I work.

It is for these reasons that I am determined to complete the journey from Bishopsbourne, through France to Bagneres de Luchon in the Pyrenees with my husband (Andy) and two friends (Lizzie &Martin)

The vision for hospice care is that everyone in east Kent should have access to service so they can cope with life-limiting illness with dignity and free form pain.

Pilgrims Hospices has been providing end of life care and support for patients and their families across east Kent for more than 30 years.

They are a registered charity offering their services free of charge.

The first of the three hospices opened at Canterbury in 1982 and was followed by Thanet in 1992 and then Ashford in 2001.

Besides the inpatient beds the three hospices also care for patients who are well enough to attend weekly day hospice sessions. These offer a range of activities including exercises, breathlessness management, complementary therapies as well as creative writing or arts and crafts.

A growing majority of patients choose to spend their final days in the familiar surroundings of their homes in the company of loved ones and Pilgrims Hospices is fully committed to helping its patients achieve their wishes to do so.

Last year they cared for 2,300 patients – a figure that is set to climb in the years ahead as people live longer and have more complex conditions.
