Story
Unfortunately, due to the closure of all charity shops across the country, many local charities who rely mainly on donations and fundraising events are suffering at the moment. As many of you know, we were due to have an instore charity event at LauryLee (Ottery, Devon) in aid of Hospiscare the last weekend of March, which has been postponed due to Covid-19 regulations. However, charities are now suffering due to the lack of donations and events like these being cancelled.
When I got the news that the marathon I was going to attempt (for the first time ever) was due to be pushed back, I have to admit I let out a sign of relief. Great, more time to train (or not)!! However, brainstorming for ways that I could help Hospiscare despite having had to cancel the event, I soon realised, tying the two together makes the most sense. Hense, THE VIRTUAL MARATHON was committed to.
How it works: On May 24th I'm committing myself to running the full length of a marathon (26.2 miles) in the fastest time possible. The run will be recorded using Strava software, which accurately tells you the distance and time travelled. With current restrictions it might even end up being a 1 mile loop ran 26.2 times!
Precautions: Obviously the marathon will be run alone, with help from people in my household only (i.e. to give out drinks or snacks) with no contact to others at any time. All government advice will be adhered to at all times.
