Story

Our daughter Calleigh is doing the step-tember challenge to raise money for this brilliant charity. We where 19weeks pregnant when we found out Calleigh has a condition called turners syndrome and with that comes a lot of medical conditions one of them being congenital heart disease,  she had her first heart operation at 5weeks old to repair her arch she also needs open heart surgery to get her bicuspid aortic valve Replace , she also has a murmur and a slight distortion in her ventricle aswell. She faces a lot of challenges with all her other medical conditions aswell . She has a lot of joint pain in her knees , hips and ankles , in 2018 we finally got some head way with her knees as her knee caps can dislocate After waiting to see specialist we finally started getting a plan into place for her she now wears 2 knee braces to help stop them from popping out as calleigh calls it and we do daily physio on her knees and hips and ankles to help strengthen them she uses her crutches for walking to help take the pain and pressure of her wee joints We have been told that she does need to have operations on her knees when she’s older but she’s far too young at the minute. We also found out in 2018 that she has scoliosis (curved spine) she now wears a back brace 23hours a day we no the brace is more than likely not going to straighten her spine it’s more or less to help slow down the curve we no that back surgery is on the cards for her aswell it’s definitely not nice seeing your daughter in pain on a daily basis but she always has a smile on her face And we couldn’t be more proud of the beautiful young girl she is.When she asked her daddy and me could she take part in the step-tember challenge we were shocked because she hates walking but we were also very proud of her ,  she plans to get between 80,000-90,000 steps for the month of September by going for a walk every every evening to get her steps up We have her wee fitness tracker to count all her steps to make sure we no how many she’s doing for each walk , if u work it out for every 10,000 steps she does that about 5miles so that’s between 40-45miles for the month anyone who knows calleigh knows that this is definitely a challenge for her and some days she might not be able to do much depending on her joint pain but she’s determined to give it a good go  so she would love it if she could raise as much as possible for Heartbeat NI any little donation would be greatly appreciate, she is kicking this all off on the 1st of September we will also be putting up pictures and wee progress reports on how she is doing.
