Story
Just over a year ago my dad (Paul Stark) was diagnosed with brain tumours, which he died of only a matter of weeks later on the 22nd of February. The care my dad received from Macmillan, as well as their support to us all as a family, was incredible and we have created this event to raise funds allowing Macmillan to continue their work in supporting people with cancer.
The challenge is simple, at least in theory. Run 4 miles every 4 hours for 48 hours, totalling 48 miles. Sounds straightforward right? There are many running challenges out there for a certain distance in one go, like a 10km or marathon, however, this challenge provides a different test due to the round the clock nature for 48 hours. Worldwide, the 3rd annual addition of the 4x4x48 Goggins Challenge, will begin on the 5th of March at 4am GMT. My cousin Nick and I will begin this challenge at Midnight on Thursday 3th of March, finishing in the early hours of Saturday 5th of March. The timeline is fitting as it will mark the 1st Anniversary of my dad’s funeral, which was on Friday 5th of March 2021, and this challenge provides an opportunity to help others in what will be a difficult time for the family.
The money raised will help Macmillan continue to support cancer patients, through their care and research.
We will regularly provide updates on our JustGiving page and through social media. Nick will predominantly be running in Stepps while I will be in Moodiesburn. We encourage anyone who can to join in at any of the 12 stages, through running, walking or providing support in any way - we might need that support for the last 11 stages.
Thank you for your support.
Kieran Stark and Nick Gardiner
