I have been in daily contact with the charity Guide Dogs for the Blind since January 2016, when my family and I began to board Guide Dogs during their preliminary stage of training. This really helped me to understand the life-changing work Guide Dogs do, not only by training dogs but also by researching sight loss and also campaigning for equal rights.
To help raise money for the cause, and also to raise awareness of the charity's work, our 14-strong fundraising team of pupils at King Edward’s decided to try and encourage pupils to raise money for Guide Dogs by getting active. A suggestion from the PE department was to ‘break the Guinness World Record for the Longest Game of Continuous Touch Rugby’, and from then it has been great fun. Unfortunately, we have since found out, for it to be an official record, all participants must be 16 or over. Therefore, we are setting out to beat the record, even if it won't officially be ours and giving as many people the chance to participate as possible.
The event is taking place from 2pm on Friday 14th June to 9pm on Saturday 15th June in the school’s new Andrew Brode Sports Hall. Donations and sponsorship are encouraged, as that will help us to chip away at the staggering £55,000 taken to train and look after a Guide Dog.
