Story
On 3rd July I will be running The Serpent Trail which is a 100km (62 mile) course in Sussex which includes nearly 6,000 feet of ascent. I am aiming not just to complete the course but to do it as quickly as I can. It’s going to be tough (and hot!) but I will be spurred on by knowing that I am raising much needed funds for an amazing charity.
Caring since 1946, Strode Park Foundation is a Kent charity, providing vital care, support services, care at home, supported living opportunities and day and leisure services for children and adults with a range of disabilities.
One of its homes in Faversham – Lady Dane Farmhouse is for adults with mixed disabilities who need long or short-term residential care. The home desperately needs a safe and appropriately accessible garden space for the people with disabilities that live there to feel safe in and to be able to do all the things that we would expect to do in our own gardens.
Following some necessary and very extensive work with drainage, the garden now sits in a state that makes it impossible to use, but prior to this the grounds were not adequately accessible to the people in wheelchairs who also live there and this is something we need to ensure for this newly designed space. The final stage of the groundwork is the lawn area which will be fully accessible to wheelchair users as well as non-wheelchair users, this will provide a sports area and space where the service users can run free and where being outside can be achieved safely and without risk.
