The Challenge
I will be 90 years old in January, and inspired by the examples of Captain Sir Tom Moore and Marcus Rashford, I hope to attract £50,000 in donations to the charity FareShare by roller skating 90 laps of the courtyard outside my flat before my 90th birthday. To maintain my balance while I skate, I need to use my best friend’s shopping trolley.
The challenge will end on the 1st of December before the snow and ice makes outdoor roller skating too risky. Please rally behind this attempt by donating to FareShare anything you can afford. Initially, the target was set at £500, but that was quickly left behind and a new target of £50,000 was set. If I can reach this I can finally hang up my skates.
The onset of winter and the end of Universal Credit and the Furlough Scheme will mean that many more families and children will be facing a hard time. I grew up in a mining community in south Lancashire and as the eldest in a family of seven children I know from experience what it is like to have to go to bed hungry or go to school hungry. Like Marcus Rashford I was grateful for free school meals. FareShare will need even more resources this winter in order to keep up with demand. Please donate and help FareShare feed hungry children.
