Story

Thanks for taking the time to read this. Once again I’m fundraising for The Rosemere in memory of my Dad, John Newsham (snr) and Collette’s Dad, Peter Beirne. 🙏🏼

This fundraiser, as are all of my fundraising challenges is totally self funded. All the costs involved come straight out of my own pocket. So any donations made go straight to The Rosemere. Some people ask me why don’t I just donate the costs of a trip to the charity direct...I could do this, however this wouldn’t raise the much needed awareness for The Rosemere and I enjoy the challenge, and maybe encourage others to do a fundraiser and step out of their comfort zone! Doing something different and raising money for a great cause at the same time, is very rewarding.

really appreciate any donations. I’ll update the page as and when I can.

Cheers John 👍

So set off from London Heathrow on 28th September 2019 and head for Vietnam, from Vietnam onto Cambodia and touch down in Heathrow on the 9th October...below is what I’ll be going in between those dates!!!

                              🤣🚴‍♀️👍

Here’s my itinerary;

Day 1 Depart London for Ho Chi Minh City

Meet our crew and your fellow cyclists at London Heathrow for the journey to Vietnam.

Day 2 Ho Chi Minh City

Upon arrival in Ho Chi Minh City we’ll meet our local crew and quickly get a feel for the hustle and bustle of this fascinating city as we transfer to our hotel where we’ll have a full trip briefing.

Day 3 Ho Chi Minh - Tra Vinh

This morning we transfer out of Ho Chi Minh City to My Tho, the gateway to the Mekong Delta, and catch a ferry across the Tien Giang River where our challenge begins! We cycle along the sugar cane and banana plantations of the Delta before arriving at our first night’s stop.

Approx. 62km cycling

Day 4 Tra Vinh - Can Tho

Our first full day of cycling will take us deep into local life, crossing wooden bridges and traversing estuaries. This afternoon we take quiet backroads through villages, offering a glimpse into the lives of the local people.

Approx. 80km cycling

Day 5 Can Tho - Long Xuyen - Chau Doc

Our last day of stunning cycling in Vietnam and this morning we’ll visit the famous floating market of Cai Rang before mounting our bikes and following the river, busy with trade, to the town of Chau Doc.

Approx. 95km cycling

Day 6 Chau Doc – Phnom Penh – Koh Dach Island

Today we wave goodbye to Vietnam and catch a boat up to Phnom Penh, Cambodia’s capital city. This afternoon we can enjoy a leisurely cycle of Koh Dach Island or you can choose an optional visit to the Khmer Rouge Killing Fields.

Approx. 20km cycling (optional)

Day 7 Phnom Penh - Kampong Thom

Today gives us a great comparison between Vietnam and Cambodia. After leaving the lively town of Phnom Penh we cycle through the lush Cambodian countryside, across the ancient Japanese bridge at Kampong Cham and past rice paddies and royal palaces before reaching Kampong Thom.

Approx. 62km cycling

Day 8 Kampong Thom - Siem Reap - Angkor Wat

Our last day of cycling sees us tackle the final section towards Siem Reap and the grand Angkor Wat! After watching the sun set over the beautiful monument we park our bikes for the final time and prepare for the evenings celebrations!

Approx. 96km cycling

Day 9 Siem Reap and Angkor Wat

Today is your free day to explore the beautiful and engulfing Angkor Wat, the national symbol of Cambodia! This UNESCO World Heritage Site is one of the largest religious monuments in the world and spans over 200 acres.

Day 10 Depart Siem Reap

This morning we bid farewell to Cambodia and our adventures along the Mekong Delta and head to the airport for our flight home.

Day 11 Arrive in London  ’s
