In memory of Joe Rowntree

Story

Joe was diagnosed with a rare cancer last December.  It was terminal and there was no cure or treatment to extend his life.  He faced his illness with great courage and was determined to continue working for the Racing Post for as long as he could.  Sadly by mid January 2021 he decided to end his career after decades as a Racing Journalist and this hit him harder than the disease itself.

We cared for him at home with the help of St Leonard's Hospice at Home Service and finally he was admitted to the Hospice on Tadcaster Road less than half a mile from his beloved racecourse. The loving care and support he received there enabled Joe to end his days peacefully with his family by his side.

Joe's Funeral 17th May 2021.    Due to Covid restrictions only minimum numbers are allowed at the venues we are using in York as they don't have the capacity for larger numbers in order to comply with social distancing.  Sadly, therefore, we cannot accommodate Joe's many racing colleagues and contacts along with several of our dear friends whose presence we will sadly miss.

However, the cortege will travel along Tadcaster Road and along  Knavesmire Road past the racecourse at about 10.50am.
