The Aspire Channel Swim 2016 · 5 December 2016 to 31 March 2017 ·

Every two hours someone in the UK is paralysed by a spinal cord injury. It can happen to anyone at any time and no one is prepared for how it will change their life. Aspire is a national charity that provides practical help, supporting spinal cord injured people from injury to independence.

Story

As most people know, I had to have two spinal surgeries in December and then January 2016.  I can now walk (almost) normally and have regained the use of my foot; which at one stage we didn't know if that would come back.  I consider myself to be very lucky.   I have experienced a small detail of what it is like to be disabled (trying to reverse my wheelchair in Sainsbury's - nightmare!) but have come out of the other side.

So, I am taking in the Aspire Channel Swim 2016, swimming the distance of the Channel over 12 weeks to raise money for Aspire.  Every eight hours someone is paralysed by a Spinal Cord Injury and Aspire provides the essential equipment, advice, housing and grants that spinal cord injured people need to live their lives independently.

This is a big challenge.  Luckily I have been able to start swimming again after lots of Physio, so I am hoping this will be good, not only for Aspire, but also for me and my back!

The more I raise, the more of a difference I'll make, so please be generous!
