Story
Two heavily pregnant ladies visiting the old maternity unit in Jersey in 1987 led onto a thirty one year old lifelong, strong and close friendship. Despite me being overdue and Jilly ending up early, our first sons were born hours apart, and so all their formative years and ours were spent together. Enjoying each other's company, sense of humour and companionship has seen us grow into the close knit friends we are today, and got us through the good times and the bad.
So when Jilly was diagnosed in March 2012 with stage 3c Ovarian Cancer, I too was devastated.Determined to support and help her in any way I could over these last six and half years, sometimes challenging years, I have been impressed with the level of care she has received, both in London and in Jersey.
Like so many others Jilly has had her fair share of operations, chemotherapy and radiotherapy, and losing her hair the first time around in 2012 was traumatic enough, and at the time I too contemplated having my head shaved, and joining forces in our sisterhood.
Sadly, Jilly is now having palliative care, and once again after a brief weekly spell with chemo she has lost her hair, only this time I will be joining her!
We both feel that this is a good opportunity to try and raise some money for one of the many support services that Jilly has been able to access, as she has been helped by the local charity Jersey Cancer Relief, it seemed right to include them in our fund raising.
Jersey Cancer Relief came into being in 1968, initially as the Jersey branch of the national campaign, when it was found that some cancer patients and their families were finding it difficult to cope financially because of their illness.
It was incorporated as a Jersey charity in November 1973, and has gone from strength to strength, unfortunately as many people know only too well, cancer is an expensive business and any financial help is always greatly appreciated, and I know this is her wish too.
If you wish to know anymore of the day to day life of Jilly then check out her blog: www.http://jillyluce.blogspot.com/
All donations however large or small will always be gratefully received, and from both of us, a heartfelt
Thank you.
