Story
Hi everyone
I'd probably be the last one doing something like this, but here I am, I signed up to the London Landmarks Half Marathon. Which means I've got 4 months to turn myself from an expert couch potato to a superior human being capable of running 21km (?!?!)
The reason of why I choose to run for RSPCA is because my best friend wouldn't be in my life if it wasn't for them. Almost 3 years ago, me and Kev finally caved in and drove to our local RSPCA shelter to see if there was any dogs that would be suitable for us and our lifestyle (adding the 2 cats).
Once we saw Jess, a 3 year old German Shepard, there was an instant connection, my heart just started pounding and I felt like I wanted to cry, so we adopted her there and then. We weren't told anything about her previous life. They didn't know either. Just that the owner brought her in and left her. Despite this, Jess was the most caring and lovable dog I've ever met. She acted straight away like an older sister to my other cats and will give love and cuddles to whatever size human she mets.
Unfortunately, last year our family was hit with the worst possible event ever, and Kev, my partner and Jess dad past away in a car accident. It broke my heart seeing her going to the door at the time that he was meant to come in expecting to see him, and without having the ability of explaining to her why her dad wasn't coming home anymore.
I went through my worse times and got into this dark hole, noone could pull me from, no matter how much they tried.
Except for Jess.
She was there when I woke up alone
She was there when I had to cook myself dinner
She was always there when I came home
And she was there every time I cried
I can honestly say that she is the one that pulled me from that dark hole I didn't see an end to. And I don't know how and where i'd be if I didn't have her in my life.
* People say Jess is lucky to have had us adopt her. But I believe we were the lucky ones to have found her *
I thank the RSPCA for bringing her to me
This run will take place on Sunday the 24th of March 2019 as part of #TeamAnimal. I will be running through the streets of London where the RSPCA first began their work nearly 200 years ago so they can continue saving animals most in need throughout England and Wales. The RSPCA received over 1 million calls from members of the public in 2017 and found new homes for over 44,000 animals. If you are able to sponsor me to complete the London Landmarks Half Marathon the money you donate will enable the charity to help even more animals in need, thank you!If you would like to find out more about the work the RSPCA does please take a look at their website www.rspca.org.uk/whatwedo
