Story
I've created this page, because I'll be taking part in Hospiscare's Marathon in a Month with my faithful 11 year old dog, Alfie.
On one of my first outings after Lockdown I saw a poster for this Hospicare event which stated 'Any AGE or ABILITY'. I thought to myself that although I do not have much of the second attribute I have plenty of the first as I celebrated my 88th Birthday during lockdown.
Since March, although Alfie & I got out for a short walk everyday, neither of us have had much motivation. My arthritic hip began to play up and give way and other long term health problems began to surface again. When I saw the poster I said to Alfie, 'this is what we need and if we can help others at the same time then we are all winners', Alfie agreed.
For the whole of October Alfie, my walking stick and I will be putting our best feet/paws forward and walking throughout Exmouth, The Maer, Phear Park, our gorgeous Blue flag Beach and maybe even Woodbury Common. If you see us please say Hi.
It will be a challenge, especially on my 'lazier' days but on these days I shall think of the folk that have been given a terminal diagnosis and the huge challenges that they, and their families, have no choice but to face every day. This is where Hospiscare comes in, providing support and specialist care for the patient and their family and friends so that they may make the most of what time they have left together.
Please help me and Alf make a difference, if you cannot give perhaps you can share our page far and wide. It means a lot to us and to Hospiscare.
