Story
Starting nursery at the beginning of your life is tough, tough to find friends, tough to fit in and can be a struggle to adapt to your new surroundings. It takes finding a good friend to help you through the process, someone who makes you feel comfortable, makes you laugh and come home with a smile on your face every single day. That was Ralph for Jaxon, even though there was a communication barrier given their age being 2 and the obstacles Ralph was facing, there was a connection between them both that was apparent from the start. Unfortunately Ralph suffered with Cerebral Palsy, which doesn't have a high life expectancy with most passing away too early at 2,3 and 4 years old and unfortunately he was taken away way too soon. I remember explaining this to Jaxon, where his good friend was and he would ask 'Why?' and it was difficult to come back with a response. Even now at almost 4, Jaxon still points to the sky and asks if 'Ralph is still in the sky'.
Jaxon has had a love of rocks for years now, which in turn makes him love climbing mountains. Having climbed 7 mountains at 3 years old and Pendle Hill repeatedly, it's safe to say he's our little mountain goat.
On the 27th April 2019, he climbed the highest in England, Scafell Pike and battled against snow and hail at the top but still reached the top unaided.
On the 23rd May 2019, he climbed the highest in Wales, Snowdon, unaided and unassisted.
On the 22nd June 2019, he will climb Ben Nevis, the highest in Scotland and Britain. At 1345m this will be a tough challenge.
If Jaxon manages to climb Ben Nevis on the 22nd, at 3 years old he will be the youngest child on record to climb the 3 highest peaks of each country in the UK. The youngest before him being 6 years old.
Cerebra are a charity that works with families who include children with brain conditions. They listen to them, they learn from them, they work with them. They carry out research, design and innovate, make and share. What they discover together makes everyone's life better.
Cerebra is the charity we have chosen to support as they offer help and support to families in similar situation to Ralphs and we feel that there would be no more deserving charity than Cerebra.
In loving memory of Ralph <3
