Story

INJURY stopped me from hitting the heights in support of St Luke’s Hospice last summer…but now I’m back in training for my next fundraising challenge.

I was set to compete in the 2022 Rat Race Man Vs Mountain event, which would have taken me to the top of Welsh mountain Snowdon and raised at least £500 for Sheffield’s only hospice.

But when a serious injury to my foot put me out of action, all my fundraising plans had to be put on hold.

Now though I’m training again and ready to take on the 2023 Sheffield Half Marathon - and again raise money for St Luke’s.

I’ve been forced to take things easy for a few months but I’m getting back into training gradually and am confident that I’ll be ready for the half marathon on March 26.

It might not be quite a spectacular as Snowdon but all runners know that Sheffield’s hills present their own challenges.

“Knowing that I’m doing the half marathon for St Luke’s Hospice is really the best motivation of all to get fit again.

St Luke’s is a brilliant charity that makes a difference to the lives of so many people and i really do want to raise as much money as possible.

It’s hard to get yourself back into running up those steep hills again but I know it’s going to be worth the effort.

About the charity

St Luke’s is an independent charity caring for terminally ill adults and their loved ones across Sheffield. Each year, we care for around 1,900 patients most of whom are cared for in their own home by our Specialist Palliative Care Community team.
