This is a plaster I need to rip off, after an eventful few years, I am ready to get back to running and raising awareness with hope to raise funds for a charity that I hope will one day find prevention or cure for Type 1 Diabetes.
Owen, our eldest son was diagnosed in 2017 at the age of 14. Though he has lived with this condition for over 5 years, the last few have been challenging to say the least. As a parent if you could take it away for them you would- I can’t do that but I can raise awareness and money for a charity that research the condition and improve the lives of people living with Type 1 Diabetes.
I work in our local secondary school where I am aware of increasing numbers of young people being diagnosed with this condition. It is constant for them, there is not a day that goes past where they don’t have to think about it and react to the issues/situations it poses.
I am thankful that Owen has such a great group of close friends that I know look out for him if they are away anywhere or playing football. There are constant worries. However, I also know that if none of us had been exposed to this condition we would not have the knowledge that we do. AWARENESS CAN SAVE LIVES.
My hope is that by taking part in Edinburgh Half Marathon 2023, I can continue raising awareness and helping Owen and others through charities like JDRF. I would be extremely grateful for any donation.
