Story
Hello lovely people, firstly, thank you for visiting my JustGiving page and reading my story. I am fundraising for St Catherine’s Hospice in Crawley; a charity that means so much to me.
My unbelievably perfect and beautiful Mum, Tracey Louise Gleed, passed away in the morning of Tuesday 11th June 2019, in the care of St Catherine's. She was originally diagnosed with rare Stage 3c Primary Peritoneal Cancer in January 2016 and DEFIED ODDS for 3.5 years - because of course, if Mum was going to do something, she was going to do it properly! I couldn't be more proud of her and will take the lessons of bravery and strength she taught with me forever and do my best to make her proud on a daily basis.
Those that visited Mum will know just how amazing a place St. Catherine's is. Mum herself described it as "heaven on earth" and said that the staff were "angels without wings" and I couldn't agree more.
Despite the situation, Mum's final weeks at St Catherine's Hospice were so full of love and laughter and the nurses, nursing assistants, therapists, volunteers, chefs, etc. ALL had a part to play in this. They made everyone feel so welcome and comfortable, especially by giving hugs when needed along the way. No request was ever too much - scrambled egg on toast at 3am? Not a problem. (The nicest, creamiest scrambled egg Mum had ever had too!).
To be able to give back to the Hospice is something I am very thankful to be able to do. They didn't only look after Mum amazingly in her final weeks, but she attended the day hospice there every Wednesday for a year receiving all types of care, therapies and treatments. St Catherine's also arranged doctors appointments when her local GP was unable to see her and also sorted constant pain medications, saving her additional drives up to Manchester.
On a personal level, St Catherine's have been incredible to me. I met some of the most incredible women in the world and I am lucky to still be in touch with many of them and consider them friends. I can honestly say I would not have coped the way I have without them and I will be forever grateful for, and in awe of their kindness. The counselling team are also brilliant and have been a huge help over the last few months, being there for me all hours of the day when I need to speak to someone.
So what am I actually doing? In 2020 I am taking part in the following runs in hopes to raise a bit of cash:
♥ London Winter Run - 9th February √
♥ Brighton Half Marathon - 23rd February √
♥ London Landmarks Half Marathon - 29th March (cancelled due to covid19 - however, completed made up of mini runs!) √
♥ Run Richmond - May 17th (completed on the sunny streets of Chelmsford) √
Thank you for any donations given. It really means so so so much to me. Love you all! X
I miss you more than words Mum. 💕
