Story
August 18th - 20th 2021: Highbridge - St. Asaph
In June 2018, my Dad was given 12 months to live thanks to progressive prostate cancer which had spread to his lungs, spine, hip and ribs. Naturally, this devastated the whole family. It's news that you can't even imagine hearing about someone you love and care for so much. Being in the room when the doctor told him the news was by far, the most heart breaking moment of my life.
Incredibly, 2 and a half years down the line, he is still fighting this awful disease and despite going through 4 horrible operations on his head to remove further tumours and battling every day with pain, weakness and general poorliness, he battles on and fights the cancer with everything he has.
Seeing anyone go through this is very hard to watch, especially when it's someone so close. It also gives you a whole new perspective on life and what we all might face at some point.
Prostate Cancer UK is a charity that needs as much support as it can get to hopefully one day, find a cure for this disease and give men like my Dad a great chance of beating it, even if it's at a progressive stage. The ride that myself and 4 of my mates are doing is to shine a light on the cause and raise as much as we can for the charity that is so important to my Dad and millions of other men in the UK now, in the past and in the future.
The five of us are cycling the 215 miles from Highbridge in Somerset, to St. Asaph Cathedral in North Wales over 3 days as a mark of significance as it starts where my Dad lives now, and ends in the city he was born. We're not experienced, hardened cyclists so this will be a huge mental and physical challenge to us all but we know that every penny raised is a penny closer to beating cancer. Any little donation will just push us on more and more and I thank you in advance for your generosity.
