Story
The letters MND are becoming more frequently used in day to day life. I never thought for one moment I would know someone who would be diagnosed, her name was Mary.
Mary was full of life, a force to be reckoned with and when I was given the news I couldn't believe something so awful could be happening to her, she was like a second mother to me, to many of us, and she was the type of person who would be there for you at a drop of a hat, with advice or cups of tea! Mary supported me with her husband Brian for my training for a past charity event and was my food and water carrier along 63 miles along the Speyside Way.
When I signed up for the Dramathon which takes you from Glenfarclas distillery to Glenfiddich I had no plan to fundraise, just a challenge to push myself after the birth of my son Finlay, but with using my old training routes along the Speyside Way had me reminiscing our times in "The Mean Green Machine" which was Mary and Brian's campervan that provides cups of soup and water along my three day challenge. That was when it hit me, I should do this for Mary, for MND it made perfect sense that she would be with me for this and support me one last time. I can still hear her voice, and I still regularly ask myself "What would Mary do?" she influenced so much in my life and still continues to do so, so .... What would Mary say? What she always would, "We will support you every step of the way"
I am not just asking you to donate (although would be much appreciated) but to take the time to see what MND really is, the work MND Scotland does, I was oblivious to this till it came into my life, like many diseases these days, till it affects you.
Please give a wee something, I know I have asked my friends many times over the years, but I really do appreciate every penny, maybe you didn't know Mary ( I wish you did as she was a hoot!), but who knows your donation could be the one that finds a cure, saves lives and keeps families together, that is pretty amazing don't you think? The power of a pound?
For Brian, Gillian, Ewan and Family xx
Love and miss you everyday Mary ❤
