Gemma's Wing Walk

Wing Walk · 10 July 2021
On 5th September, I was strapped to the wing of a 1940’s Boeing Stearman Biplane. Perched on top of the wing, the expert pilot completed a series of thrilling manoeuvres and heart-pounding flypasts, including a run and break as well as the highlight – a daring dive from 500ft!
I undertook this madness in support of the Teesdale and Weardale Search and Mountain Rescue Team. It's a team close to my heart as my husband is part of it and I've seen the amazing work they do.
The rescue team consists of about 50 volunteers, all on call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. All the volunteers work in normal jobs too and meet almost all their own expenses for work with the team. The team will typically respond to between 40 and 50 requests for help every year. Team vehicles, rescue kit, medical supplies and operational running costs are in excess of £40,000 per year so we rely entirely on donations from the public to provide this free public emergency service.
If you would prefer to donate via cheque please do feel free to post cheques to me, payable to 'TWSMRT'. Please let me know if you would like a Gift Aid declaration for this method.
