Fundraising for Severn Hospice
Story
In January 2018 a close friend and ex West Mercia police staff member Lisa McCALLISTER was diagnosed with Ovarian cancer. Lisa’s husband Alun a serving police dog handler with our force was also due to retire in May, so you can imagine this was a huge set back for the plans they had in mind.
Lisa spent the next several months being very ill and undergoing numerous chemotherapy sessions.
In July 2018 Lisa was given the all clear and she and Al were able to finally move on and enjoy retirement together.
In October 2018 Lisa was given the devastating news that the cancer had not only returned but had also spread to around her lungs and abdomen. There is no cure but she is undergoing palliative treatment to try and slow things down and give her more time. Despite this Lisa and Al continue to fight this with the upmost courage and dignity.
On 12th May 2019 I along with numerous friends/ colleagues of West Mercia Police will be running Market Drayton 10K in police riot gear including riot shields. The kit will be NATO helmet, PSU double overalls, gloves and kit belt. We are a mixed ability group with some who don't run and some who have run competitively so some will run in PSU boots and some in trainers. .
Lisa has requested that all money raised goes to Severn Hospice which gives specialist care and support free of charge to families that are living with an incurable illness.
Lisa sadly lost her battle with cancer on 3rd March 2019
