Story
In 2002/03 my father set out to walk the 36 miles of the Coed Morgannwg Way from Merthyr Tydfil to Margam over the mountains of South Wales. He was 65 at the time, and completed the walk in a little under 14 hours in Sept 2003. On his own, with a flimsy map and guide book of his own notes.
On September 8th 2018 I will be running this route, retracing his steps using his written account, hand drawn maps and notes as my guide.
It is 36 miles (just short of one and a half marathons), over the mountains of South Wales, the highest point being Rhigos Mountain at nearly 2,000ft. The total of all climbs together is higher than Ben Nevis and Pen-y-Fan combined.
I will be raising money for the Welsh Air Ambulance.
Wales Air Ambulance is solely funded by the people of Wales and requires £6.5 million a year to keep its 4 Helicopters in the sky serving Wales and saving lives.WAA can be anywhere in Wales within 20 minutes and operates its latest 4th aircraft as Wales Children's Air Ambulance that can transfer premature and new born infants to the required hospital for life-saving treatment.Your donations will help keep this vital service in Wales and allow for patients to be taken quickly in their time of need to the most appropriate hospital.
