Story
To celebrate turning 60, I’m setting myself some challenges based on the number 60 throughout 2023 and will be raising money for the mental health charity Young Minds. We lost our lovely daughter, Imogen, in 2020 and I want to raise money for Young Minds to help protect other young people from suffering and maybe save other friends and families from the heartbreak of losing a much loved young person.
I have set myself the goal of covering 3,600 miles on foot or by pedal power during the year (3,600 is 60 squared) – I’ll be logging these activities on Strava. The other challenges I’m setting myself include:
- 60 days of hiking during the year ✅ Done
- 60 summits (recorded by the Summit-bag app) ✅ Done
- One 60 km hike in a day ✅ Done
- A 60 nautical mile sailing trip ✅ Done
- 60 hours volunteering ✅ Done
- I’m kicking off the year by running 60 km in January (my dodgy hips make this a genuine challenge) ✅ Done
My fundraising target of £3,600 represents £1 per mile for the 3,600 miles I will be covering.
With the year now at its end, I'm pleased to say I've completed all my challenges. I covered a total of 3,731 miles in the year, climbed my 60 summits, hiked for 60 days, with a longest day's hiking of 63.7km, did 60 hours volunteering, did a 2 day, 60 mile sail off the south coast from Plymouth and ran 60km in January. Thanks to the generosity of my supporters, I've met and well exceeded my fundraising target.
Thanks for your support, Fraser
