Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.  I am about to start the biggest bike challenge i have ever undertaken and although very excited am also a little nervous.  I have taken 6 months off work and my aim is to cycle round the coast of Mainland Britain and to possibly visit a couple of Scottish Islands.   I am planning to be on my bike for approximately 5 months and yes that means carrying everything i need for this time on my bike and up all those hills.   This is completely self supported and therefore anything i raise will be going directly to the charity.  

Demelza is a charity very close to my heart.  As a family we have benefited from the amazing care and support Demelza provides for children with multiple disabilities and life limiting illnesses. The facilities at the Demelza hospices are specialised providing individualised care for each child and respite for family members.

My lovely nephew was born with Cerebral Palsy.  He is a really playful and happy  boy but like many other children with multiple disabilities, needs a high level of specialised and continuous care.  Having respite care at Demelza gives him the chance to have some really special experiences and allows the family to receive essential support.  He loves his stays there, the staff are all brilliant with him and we can all rest assured that he will be provided with excellent care, whilst also having fun. 

Demelza's amazing facilities,such as the hydro pool and the adapted adventure playground, also enable the family to spend time together  and do what are perceived as normal activities. Its been great to see my nephew and niece play and swim together. 

Bringing up children and raising a healthy, happy family is hard work at the best of times. When a child is born with or develops a terminal condition, the emotional and physical impact affects the whole family and can be overwhelming. At Demelza, we focus on supporting each child, young person and family we work with to achieve the best possible life. As specialists in care for young people and family support, we will continue to use our outstanding knowledge, experience and expertise to help families enjoy their lives together.
