Story
What am I doing to fund raise?
I am running the 2019 London Marathon to raise money for the MS Society. I received a MS Society charity place for the 2019 London Marathon.
I am also taking part in the Worksop Halloween half marathon on 28th October 2019.
I am hosting a 12 hour charity dance-a-thon on the 23rd March 2019 with all proceeds going to the MS Society.
Why am I raising money?
The MS Society is very dear to my heart. My mum died in February 2018 due to Multiple Sclerosis. I want to help stop MS.
I started running in January this year so this will be a really big challenge. I am looking forward to training for next year's London Marathon.
Why did I choose the MS Society?
There are currently 100,000 people diagnosed with MS in the UK. Most commonly diagnosed in people in their 20s and 30s, Multiple Sclerosis is a condition that can affect the brain and/or the spinal cord. There is currently no cure for MS. MS is a lifelong condition that can cause serious disability, with the average life expectancy slightly reduced for MS sufferers.
My mum had relapsing and remitting MS when I was a child and then progressed to having secondary progressive when I got older. Initially her symptoms included changes in her gait while walking, fatigue as well as numbness and tingling in her hands. Her symptoms progressed significantly over the last few years of her life to being bed-bound, not being able to speak and having limited memory.
The MS Society funds ground-breaking research. The MS Society is fighting for better treatment and care. The charity also provides helplines, support groups, home adaptation grants and carer grants which are vital.
Here are a few examples of how the MS Society charity funding will be spent
£5 could pay for laboratory essentials, such as Petri dishes and microscope slides.
£50 could pay for 10 calls to the MS Society's helpline, so they can be there for people when support is needed the most.
£500 could provide a short break grant for someone with MS to enjoy quality time away and a chance to relax without worries.
£1,000 could run a MRI scanner for four hours providing detailed images of the brain that help to understand MS.
£2,000 could pay for 40 days of the online forum: a place for people with MS, their friends and their family to connect.
Thank you for donating to the MS Society. I appreciate every donation.
