Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I'm aiming to cycle 100 laps of Southsea Seafront over the next 3-4 weeks, as my exercise in 'lockdown'. This is approximately 5.5 miles per lap so I will be completing a distance equivalent from Portsmouth to Fort William, which for someone who is not a fit cyclist and feeling my years seems a daunting proposition!
For several years I have been supporting a young person at the Asobora Child Development Project near Hoima in Uganda through Compassion UK. This is a Christian charity that aims to provide the most needy children with the education, nutrition and medical support which they would not otherwise have. You can find out more about the work of Compassion UK on their website; www.compassionuk.org.
I visited the Project in Asobora in 2015 and saw for myself the work they are doing in supporting children and families in this poor community. The aim is to lift children out of poverty by giving them the education and training they need to give them a future and a hope. However they are hampered in their work here by the lack of adequate classrooms which is still the case. They only have the most temporary shelters which they use as classrooms at the moment which makes teaching and learning difficult. [See photo in my Gallery]
My aim is to help provide the funds they desperately need to build permanent classrooms that will give them a safe, weatherproof and functional environment. Some funding towards the first classroom has been forwarded, but we still need to raise a minimum of a further £5000 so that other rooms can be built. Every contribution will help towards this target - so will you please help me make a difference for these children?
You can help by giving a one-off donation or in instalments depending on my progress!
[It needs to be stated that although this aim is a priority for the Project we have to give Compassion discretion in the use of the funds in the case of this target not being reached.]
