Alva Academy pupils, staff, parents & community have been fundraising for Macmillan Cancer Support for 20 years this year. In that time we have raised over £400,000 for such a worthwhile cause. However, it means so much more to us than just an amazing total. To us it is about creating lifelong memories for our pupils, it is about skills development, friendships, community, laughter, values, respect, empathy, understanding, selflessness and fun. It is about changing the lives of people we may not ever know but knowing we have made a difference. It is about learning to give the most valuable thing we can give......our time. We may be the smallest county in Britain but we have the largest heart. Yes we have won awards such as the prestigious Douglas Macmillan award and government point of light award. Yes we’ve been honoured to meet the Prime Minister and royalty but more importantly we have won the hearts of thousands of people affected by cancer.  

It has been a joy looking back over 19 years and reminiscing over just how many crazy things we have done to raise awareness and money. I wish I could list every single one but that would take up a very big book! Personally, I am so grateful to each and every one of the 3000 ish pupils, their families and our community members who have given up their time to lead our amazing wee school in becoming the highest fundraising school in the UK for Macmillan. “We are Alva Academy, we are Macmillan”. 💚💚💚Thanks for supporting my fundraising. At Macmillan, we give people with cancer everything we’ve got. If you’re diagnosed, your worries are our worries. We’re doing whatever it takes.
