I work at the Princess Royal Hospital and saw an appeal on ward 11 for funds to help them establish a 'Swan Room' with better facilities for people nearing the end of their life.

The team are dedicated to improving the environment for patients and their relatives and their energy and drive rubbed off on me. I gave myself a 2-wheeled challenge which I'm dreading!

I aim to climb the equivalent of the Three Peaks (Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon) but on a bike. To achieve this I will complete 10 ascents of the Horseshoe Pass in a day.

Although I cycle I am not a climber so this is going to hurt! To rub salt in my wounds my son-in-law is going to do it alongside me and he is a natural-born climber, drat!
