Coma to Century cyclist - 541 miles over 6 events

Coma to Century cylcist - 531 miles over 6 events · 24 February 2019
I am Fusilier Willis currently serving with the British Army in the Royal Welsh. In 2016 I was involved in a car crash from which I sustained a traumatic brain injury.
I had 2 bleeds on the brain, Broke 4 bones/vertebrae in my lower back and fractured 3 bones/vertebrae in the top of my neck and my lung collapsed whilst in surgery.
I was then induced into a 26 week coma to help the swelling
go down on my brain.
I went from a fit, active and aspiring Army physical training instructor to being in a coma in hospital in an instant.
From that moment on I had to battle daily to get back to work. For a long time I didn't know what had happened to me, or even accept anything was wrong due to the brain injury.
Luckily with the help of the experts at the armed forces rehabilitation complex at Headley Court, I eventually got back to my unit in early 2018. I then got signed off as fully fit mid 2018 and at that point decided I wanted to give back for all the help I received.
I love cycling and this was something they picked up on in Headley Court and used it to help me get back to fitness. I now want to use this passion to raise money for others, so they can benefit from the help given to soldiers by Help for Heroes.
