Story
Thanks for visiting my page. I'm raising money for the British Heart Foundation and I'd be so grateful for your support.
I will be challenging myself on this 9-day adventure to some of South East Asia’s most famous landmarks. Over 5 days of cycling, I will be passing remote villages, paddy fields, the mighty Mekong, ancient temples, bustling cities, and experience the deep history of this incredible region raising money for the British Heart Foundation
Five years ago I suffered a heart attack cycling up Caerphilly mountain while competing in the Cardiff Velothon - I spent time in the Neville Hall, Abergavenny and finally received the operation at the Heath Hospial, where I had a stent fitted. I have been active all my life, ex-footballer, athlete and cyclist, and as far as I was concerned nothing like that was going to happen to me!
As a member of Dinas Powys Rotary Club, I have for a number of years raised monies for various charities by arranging or competing in charity events, in fact I organised a cycle event from Calais to Bruges for our club members raising £11,000 for Prostrate Cancer Cymru back in 2019 - however this event will be greatest challenge to date.
Recently a very good friend of mine and member of Dinas Powys Rotary Club, tragically died of a massive heart attack at his home - he was very active, ex-professional football, local cricket player and was still active in crown and indoor bowling.
I wanted to give myself another challenge and to choose The British Heart Foundation and raise as much monies as I can for my chosen charity will be a privilege and an honour and a memory to my good friend Dougie.
The BHF has helped halve the number of people dying from heart and circulatory disease in the UK but sadly every day hundreds of people lose their lives. It's only thanks to support from people like us that the BHF can create new treatments and discover new cures. £24 could pay for two hours of research by an early career scientist, but every pound helps so please give what you can to help me hit my target. Thanks!
