Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
My wife Toni was diagnosed with Parkinson's 15 years ago. We have been involved with the local Parkinson's support group since it was set up. I have been coordinating the activities of 'Parkinson's in the Pub' as the local group is known for some time. Toni is now too ill to be able to join in so I will be handing over my role. My swan song is to raise money for Parkinson's UK to help fund research into this as yet incurable progressive disease.
One of Toni's wonderful carers is Britt Meyland-Smith. Toni and I took a holiday in Spain last year and Britt came with us to help. At the end of June, Toni contracted pneumonia and spent 5 weeks in hospital. She is now back at home, very weak and confined to bed.
Britt is taking part in the "Finding Remo" Challenge with her co-driver Carl Orsborn. The event is a vintage car rally from Kingston in Devon to San Remo and back with some 20 teams taking part. I am providing the car, a 1938 Austin Iver, which they will drive. I am asking you to encourage them and support their challenging 3,600 kilometer drive by donating to Parkinson's UK through this page.
Parkinson’s is a progressive brain condition, which means it gets worse over time. There are lots of different treatments and therapies to help manage the symptoms of Parkinson’s but at the moment there’s no cure. Research is expensive but essential if the 50 people who are newly diagnosed every day in the UK are to have hope for the future.
£500 could fund an MRI brain scan for an hour to help researchers learn more about the Parkinson’s brain. £170 could fund a clinical researcher for a day, allowing new Parkinson’s treatments to be tested and better diagnostic techniques to be developed.
