We Celebrating diversity to Improve social cohesion

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I have marked my dad Derek’s birthday with an epic running challenge every year since he died in December 2014.

Chris will be running again supporting 2 charities in the Cotswold 24-hour cross-country run commencing on 4th of August which takes place on the Bathurst Estate which is just outside Cirencester. He is supporting WECA a Warrington community group celebrating diversity to help social cohesion and Warrington group of the Multiple Sclerosis Society

The Project for WECA is the Mela a cultural festival that raises awareness of the diverse cultures in Warrington. The event will have stalls and entertainment. We invite the police and services to have stalls on the day to enable people to sign up to services and find out more about where to report hate crime, get information on adult social care, and health care services.

Provide an overview of the project (ongoing or new, start date, how it will operate) Warrington Ethnic Community Association intend to continue with an ongoing event in Warrington to showcase the work it supports within the community. The Charity runs a one day event called the Mela, The word MELA come from Sanskrit "to meet" and is related to "milana". The MELA will be a tool to develop support networks, break taboos and stigmas and build trust between residents and services. Mela’s are traditionally an Asian celebration but WECA (Warrington Ethnic Communities Association) break away from this format and celebrate the rich and diverse cultures of Warrington. It is also an opportunity for various ethnic communities to come together and share common values within the wider Warrington Community. Our communities bring food, entertainment that is traditionally cultural to them. What are the project’s aims and how will they be achieved? The Project is the Mela a cultural festival that raises awareness of the diverse cultures in Warrington. The event will have stalls and entertainment. We invite the police and services to have stalls on the day to enable people to sign up to services and find out more about where to report hate crime, get information on adult social care, and health care services. The stalls and services will be promoted in the intervals of the entertainment.
